Greetings and a question

First of all hi! I'm mostly a crochet girl but I recently got a collection of knitting needles after my grandfather decided to move. Since they belonged to my grandmother, I intend to make sure they won't go into disuse. With this I also immediately land on my *ahem* problem.

You see, among this collection of knitting needles was something where I have no idea what it's for. It says 'Stokbreien' and 'stokhaken' on the cardboard tube (a direct translation to English would turn it into 'stick knitting' and 'stick crochet').Inside is one huge, thick, wooden knitting needle. This needle it about 1.5 centimeters in diameter and almost sixty centimeters long. It also had a 3 mm normal knitting needle, which was equal in length. While the big wooden knitting needle is extremely well suited for poking and, in one epic moment bug squashing, I would like to know what it's actually intended for. I've been trying to find out through google. I've asked people and right now I just simply do not have a clue what to do anymore.

Can anyone help me? Please?

I believe it for making broomstick lace. The crochet pretty much goes around the big needle so that the loops are huge and uniform size.
