First of all hi! I'm mostly a crochet girl but I recently got a collection of knitting needles after my grandfather decided to move. Since they belonged to my grandmother, I intend to make sure they won't go into disuse. With this I also immediately land on my *ahem* problem.

You see, among this collection of knitting needles was something where I have no idea what it's for. It says 'Stokbreien' and 'stokhaken' on the cardboard tube (a direct translation to English would turn it into 'stick knitting' and 'stick crochet').Inside is one huge, thick, wooden knitting needle. This needle it about 1.5 centimeters in diameter and almost sixty centimeters long. It also had a 3 mm normal knitting needle, which was equal in length. While the big wooden knitting needle is extremely well suited for poking and, in one epic moment bug squashing, I would like to know what it's actually intended for. I've been trying to find out through google. I've asked people and right now I just simply do not have a clue what to do anymore.

Can anyone help me? Please?

So, I'm very quickly coming to the end of a scarf that I'm gifting to a friend of mine. I've decided that I'd like to add a hat to the mix, since I unexpectedly discovered that I had a whole other skein of yarn in that yarn type/color that I didn't know about. And since I'll plenty left over once I bind off on the scarf, I should theoretically have plenty left over for a hat.

Normally I do your basic little roll brim because they're easy and cute. But since this is an openwork scarf, I was thinking about making her a hat with an openwork design to it. It would have to be something simple that I could work up quickly (present time is a bit limited). The yarn I'm working with right now is Cascade Yarns Pima Tencel, for anyone who needs to know.
